Here are 5 of the best hobbies for teenagers to get into
It's time to take some time off the internet as a teenager, and there are a lot of hobbies we can use to do this. Having fun isn't just about phones and computers, there was a time when these weren't even the way to have fun. Some of these activities need friends while others don't. I'm sure there's something for everyone on this list. So without further ado, let's get to the point!
1. Drawing
Drawing might seem like a hard task to some, but even for the least skilled people, drawing can be an outlet for your imagination. This is where you can draw stuff, interpret it however you like, and improve. Drawing also is a great method for destressing and expanding your thought process. For some, this is a way to relax and somewhere they can express themselves freely. You can start either digitally or by hand, whichever one you prefer!
2. Writing
I may be a little biased, but writing is extremely fun to do! There are so many things you can write about. A good idea is to start with a journal of your life or write about a funny thing that happened in your childhood. As a blogger, I started writing because it was an outlet to share my thoughts, not just with the world but with myself. Even if you are just looking for a hobby, writing is a great hobby to choose, because you don't even need to be a "good" writer to have some fun!
3. Sewing
I'll admit, I haven't sewed anything in a long time, but this is one of the most satisfying things to do. Not only is this a good skill to have, but you can sew together pockets and bags! So if you find some ripped clothes or a new bag, try out this new skill and see where it takes you! I learned how to sew at a young age and learned how to sew my clothes back together, which was actually fun! From figuring out needles to the actual satisfaction of completing the project, the whole process was just so simple yet addicting for me!
4. Photography
Photography is one of the best hobbies for a teenager to do! Instagram is one of the best places to share your photos. Getting started is a bit complicated, you could begin with a camera but often times it can be expensive. So if you don't want to go that route you can use your phone. If you find this to be something you enjoy, then you can consider whether you want to buy a camera, but it really depends on what you plan to photograph. In some cases, a phone will suffice, but in other cases, if you really need to send a message then you might want a camera. See if your school offers courses on photography as well!
5. Volunteering
Volunteering at non-profits is one of the best things for teenagers! Not only is it good for college applications, but it also opens you up to being able to connect with others and find like-minded people. It also helps you by showing you a way to use your skills and collaborate. Volunteering is an experience that will leave a lasting impact on you and can really help you in the future.
So there you have it! 5 new hobbies you can start trying! Note that you should never stop searching for new things to do, this list is just a starter list for a whole bunch of hobbies that you could start taking up today. There's more to just playing games online and on Instagram throughout the world, and the more hobbies we discover, the more we can open ourselves up to these experiences.
